Overview:
This all-metal O Scale trackside accessory is a great addition for any model railroad featuring steam or diesel motive power pulling long strings of cars. While the accessory doesn’t operate, real-life locomotives needed added tractive effort to tackle grades or slippery track brought on by weather conditions.
Locomotives sprayed sand down onto the rails directly in front of the drive wheels. The gritty texture provided increased traction and the sanding towers were conveniently located in areas where traction problems occurred and were just as important as the coal and water towers found throughout the railroads’ lines during the steam era.
