Overview:
With a larger roster than most, the practice of naming locomotives ended earlier on the Pennsylvania and paint schemes also took on a more consistent look by the late 1850s. By 1873, black and dark green became the new standard. But through the 1860s many locomotives still featured a nice color palette of dark umbers, red and green accents and polished metal. Number 8 is shown here in one of those common paint schemes as worn in passenger service in the Civil War era - very different look than our previous Pennsylvania hybrid.
