Overview:
CSX inherited not only Chessie's huge roster of GP40-2s but many examples from former Family Lines roads and eventually Conrail as well giving them the largest and most diverse fleet on the rails to this day. In the early 1990s, CSX began equipping many of their GP40-2s to act as mother units with road slugs rebuilt from GP30 and GP35 models. Our GP40-2s in this run are three such units which trace their heritage back to an order by the Seaboard Coast Line and Louisville and Nashville in 1980, decorated and detailed to match a late 1990s/early 2000s appearance with "Bright Future" paint and white cab roofs. The units have long since lost their class lights but now sport ditch lights on the front anti-climber along with their original nose-mounted headlights. Delivered in 1980, these "Phase 2C" models feature numerous body differences from their Chessie partners on the CSX system.
